That was a special evening! Arlan had invited Harcourt Klinefelter and his wife Annelies. Harcourt is Martin Luther King Jr.’s former press secretary. and was responsible for the recording and distribution of his speeches. He was also at the Selma march, where Viola Liuzzo was murdered by the clan for transporting a black man. Arlan wrote a song about this called Viola, which was introduced by Harcourt for this special occasion. He also recorded the telephone conversation on the tape recorder, in which Viola’s death was announced. Harcourt also brought the original recorder with him for the occasion! Arlan also played songs by his hero Greg Trooper and, at Marieke’s request, closed the evening with 50 miles. It was a wonderful concert!
